The CSC Student Design Competition (also known recently as the “Student Design Challenge”) is an annual design competition for post-secondary students in Ontario who are studying architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, engineering, construction management, manufacturing/products design, or otherwise interested in construction-related design and specification.
The competition is co-presented by the Grand Valley and Toronto Chapters of CSC — meaning it’s open to students across Greater Toronto Area, Waterloo Region, and broader Ontario schools
Eligible participants include current post-secondary students in Ontario. That covers: undergraduates, graduate students, or students in relevant design / construction-related programs.
Why Grand Valley & Toronto Chapters Run It — And Its Value for Students
This competition reflects the mission of CSC: enhancing the quality and credibility of construction documentation / specification practice by integrating students early
By involving actual heritage / real-world sites, and requiring specification documentation + design + creative interpretation, the competition gives students realistic, cross-disciplinary exposure. Good training ground for future work in architecture / engineering / construction / interior design.
For students in Toronto, Waterloo, Kitchener, London and other Ontario areas — especially those studying design-related disciplines — this is a premier opportunity to build portfolio pieces, network with industry professionals, win prizes, and get exposure beyond school.
